Sarah Casey
Newcastle Accommodation Team LeaderAs a proud mum of five amazing children including a set of triplets. Sarah knows a thing or two about patience, adaptability, organisation and keeping calm when there are a million things happening at once! Her family is an incredibly important part of who she is and has helped shape the caring, resilient and dependable person she brings to her role at Flourishing Lives Disability Services.
Sarah has a genuine passion for mental health, human behaviour and understanding what makes each person unique. She is currently studying a Bachelor of Psychological Science and plans to transition into Behavioural Science, allowing her to further develop her knowledge and ultimately make an even greater contribution to the lives of people with disability. Her passion for the sector is also deeply personal. Sarah has lived experience supporting loved ones with complex neurological and mental health disabilities, giving her an understanding of disability that extends beyond textbooks, policies and professional practice.
Through these experiences, Sarah has seen firsthand how important it is for people to be listened to, respected and given genuine opportunities to make decisions about their own lives. It has shaped her strong commitment to fairness, equality and ensuring every participant receives the same dignity, respect and opportunities as anyone else. At the heart of Sarah's approach is one simple but incredibly important principle: be someone people can rely on. Sarah believes meaningful support means being there for participants in every capacity — emotionally, mentally and physically. Whether someone needs encouragement through a difficult day, practical assistance to achieve a goal, someone who will genuinely listen, or simply the reassurance of knowing their support person will show up when they say they will, Sarah wants participants to know they can count on her.
She understands that trust isn't something automatically given because of a job title — it's something that needs to be earned through consistency, honesty, respect and reliability. Sarah takes the time to understand each participant as an individual, recognising that everyone has different needs, preferences, strengths, challenges and aspirations. Her goal is to provide support that helps participants feel safe, respected, understood and empowered, while encouraging independence wherever possible. Rather than focusing solely on what a person may need assistance with, Sarah believes in recognising what they can do and finding ways to build upon those strengths.
Sarah also brings plenty of creativity to her work. Before and alongside her journey within the disability sector, she became a fully qualified makeup artist and completed a Diploma in Beauty Therapy. Her creative background reflects her love of helping people express themselves, feel confident and embrace their individuality. And the creativity certainly doesn't stop there!
As Sarah continues developing professionally, she hopes to combine her studies, lived experience and practical experience within the disability sector to deepen her understanding of behaviour, mental health and person-centred support. Above all, Sarah wants the people she supports to know one thing: she's in their corner. Her philosophy is to provide reliable support in every capacity — emotionally, mentally and physically — so participants know they have someone they can genuinely count on while they work towards the life, independence and goals that matter to them.
Outside of work and study, Sarah loves giving old things a new lease on life by restoring furniture, settling in with a crochet project, and caring for her ever-growing collection of indoor plants. She also enjoys fishing and, most importantly, spending quality time with her family and friends. Balancing five children, university studies, work and her many interests certainly keeps Sarah busy, but it's also a pretty accurate reflection of who she is — someone who cares deeply, gives wholeheartedly and isn't afraid of a challenge.
